HEAT WAVES
Visualize moving air patterns - wind blowing, heat rising, and cold air sinking - with Heat Waves. This science-based interactive uses mirrors, cameras, and a sharp edge to split light, allowing us to see the heat rising off our own hands or how air interacts with the props on the table.

All-Inclusive
Every order of Heat Waves includes:
-
Camera, Concave Mirror, Razor blade and LED for creating the Schlieren Image
-
Three (3) air-moving interactives:
-
Heat mat
-
Air Blower
-
Vacuum
-
-
Monitor display
-
Descriptive didactic of Schlieren imaging
-
Lockable storage cabinet with custom color stain
-
Countertop with ADA roll-under access
-
Exhibit care manual and detailed set-up guide
Real-World Applications
Schlieren Imaging is often used by aeronautical engineers to visualize how air moves around objects, like airplanes, as they glide across the sky. Any application that requires a clear view of drag, wind resistance, or lift might employ Schlieren photography to inform future designs. Schlieren can also be used to see any liquids or gasses of different densities interacting with each other. It has even been used to visualize the effectiveness of face masks against sneezes!
Stunning Science in Action
Heat Wave's surprisingly clear image of invisible airwaves is truly magical. Kids and adults alike are entranced by the strange swirling patterns rising off their hands, or the vortex-like way air gets sucked into the vacuum. And no need to stop there - although our exhibit comes with four awesome interactives, just about anything can be added to the table for visitors to explore either freely or during special programming. Freeze pop, anyone?
Easy Install
Your order includes a step-by-step manual for assembling your Heat Waves exhibit, and we also send you a link to a step-by-step video guide. If that doesn't cut it, we're always just a phone call away and happy to help you with any questions as you navigate your new exhibit adventure.
